Phonak, a global leader in advanced hearing solutions, is committed to improving the lives of people with hearing loss. Proper usage and care of your Phonak hearing aids will help ensure optimal performance, comfort, and longevity. This updated 2025 guide walks you step-by-step through how to turn on your Phonak hearing aids—whether you have battery-powered, modern rechargeable, or older rechargeable models.

Safety Precautions Before Handling Your Hearing Aids

  • Wash and dry your hands before handling hearing aids to avoid dirt, oil, or moisture damage.
  • When changing batteries, dispose of the old ones properly—keep them away from children and pets as they are toxic if swallowed.
  • Work over a soft surface or towel to prevent accidental drops.

1. Turning On Phonak Hearing Aids with Button Batteries

Different sizes and colors of zinc-air hearing aid batteries

Many traditional Phonak hearing aids use zinc-air button batteries, which are air-activated and long-lasting. Here’s how to power them on:

  • Step 1: Start with a fresh zinc-air battery. Remove the sticker and let it sit for 1–2 minutes before inserting.
  • Step 2: Open the battery door gently using your fingernail.
  • Step 3: Insert the battery with the flat (+) side facing up.
  • Step 4: Close the battery door completely—this action turns the hearing aid on.

2. Turning On Modern Phonak Rechargeable Hearing Aids

This includes the latest Phonak Audeo Lumity (L) and Phonak Audeo Paradise (P) series hearing aids, which feature automatic on/off when removed from the charger.

3. Turning On Older Phonak Rechargeable Hearing Aids

  • Step 1: Place the hearing aid in the charger until fully charged.
  • Step 2: Remove it from the charger, then press and hold the button for 4 seconds until you see a single green blink (on). Two blinks indicate it is powering off.

Maintenance Tips for Phonak Hearing Aids

  • Wipe your hearing aids daily with a soft, dry cloth to remove earwax and oils.
  • Never submerge hearing aids in water or expose them to steam, rain, or extreme heat.
  • When not in use, store them in a drying box or protective case to prevent moisture damage.
